US army base shooting sparks mental health debate - 7 Nov 09

After an army psychiatrist killed 13 people at a US military base in Texas, concerns are being raised about the mental health of the military staff.

Families of soldiers at the Fort Hood base say Thursday's shootings are just a symptom of a much wider and increasingly urgent problem.

There have been dozens of suicides at the facility in recent years.

Ft. Hood - US largest homeland terrorist attack since 9/11?

Nidal Malik Hasan A US army major has killed 13 people and wounded 30 others in a bloody rampage at the Fort Hood military base in Texas. Officials say the lone shooter has been shot multiple times and is now in custody.
A military psychiatrist has shot dead 12 people, and wounded 31 others, after opening fire at an Army base in the state of Texas. The attack took place at a centre where soldiers about to be deployed, undergo medical screening. The gunman, identified as Major Nidal Malik Hasan, was reported to have been killed, but is now said to be wounded and in custody. He was about to be sent to serve in Iraq. Officials say he was known to have posted discussions of suicide bombings on radical internet sites.
Counterterrorism experts are calling the incident the largest homeland terrorist attack since 9/11.
