MLK would oppose US imperialism
As we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream of equality, many believe the Pentagon hijacked his legacy to justify wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Former Weather Underground member and author Mark Rudd says a year before his death, Dr. King came out against the war Vietnam War. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are wars of aggression and Dr. King would be opposed to these.
Police Brutality: Kicked In The Face While Complying (RCMP)
Abbotsford police plan to recommend a charge of assault against a Kelowna R-C-M-P officer in connection with a controversial arrest that was captured on video and posted to the Internet. The video of the arrest shows a Mountie kicking Buddy Tavares in the face on January 7th, as Tavares appears to be complying by lowering himself to the ground. Constable Ian MacDonald of Abbotsford police says investigators spoke to 40 witnesses and examined the video, and they'll forward their report to Crown counsel in the coming days. Yesterday's announcement came an hour before several hundred people in Kelowna rallied to protest the officer's actions.
Nuclear worm to create Chernobyl meltdown in Iran?
The Russian Nuclear agency denies that Iran's Bushehr reactor could be damaged by a computer virus. This follows western newspaper reports that the plant was subject to a sophisticated joint US-Israeli cyber attack. Vladimir Sotnikov, from the Moscow-based Institute of World Economy and International Relations, told RT that such an attack is completely unrealistic.
