Saudi Prince Sentenced to Life for Murder of Servant

Saudi Prince Sentenced to Life for Murder of Servant
"The UK's Telegraph is reporting that Saudi prince Saud Abdulaziz bin Nasser al Saud has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his servant, Bandar Abdulaziz. Although the prince initially assumed, upon his arrest, that he would be granted diplomatic immunity, the British justice system did not give him special status as a member of the Saudi royal family.

The royal strangled his servant after biting him on both cheeks in a violent attack that is said to have been sexual in nature. The initial beating, which occurred after a night out on Valentine's Day, was caught on tape by an elevator camera in the 5-star London hotel where the prince and his servant were staying.

The Old Bailey jury convicted Saud of murder after a deliberation that lasted just one hour and 35 minutes. He was also convicted of a second count of grievous bodily harm with intent for his elevator attack.

Justice Bean said to the prince during the sentencing, ''No-one in this country is above the law. It would be wrong for me to sentence you either more severely or more leniently because of your membership of the Saudi royal family.''

Saud may need to seek asylum in Britain upon completing his prison sentence instead of returning home because of the possibility of execution. In Saudi Arabia, homosexuality is a capital offense."
