Congressmen Ron Paul and Barney Frank are sending a letter to US President Barack Obama with a proposal to cut the military budget by a trillion dollars. As the economy and the budget deficit continues to worsen, it seems that this is a very logical place to start cutting out funds. Paul Craig Roberts says that while passing this initiative would be great, he is skeptical that it will pass because Congress would lose too much campaign money.

Dr. Laura to Quit Radio After N-Word Flap

In an announcement she made on "Larry King Live," Dr. Laura Schlessinger promised that her radio silence won't mean a quiet exit from the spotlight and vowed to be back in the public eye.

"I'm not retiring," she told King. "I'm not quitting." "The reason is, I want to regain my First Amendment rights," she said. "I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates, attack sponsors. I'm sort of done with that." On August 10, Dr. Laura Schlessinger launched into a racially charged rant, during which Schlessinger -- in her own words -- "articulated the 'n' word for 11 times .Dr. Laura Schlessinger has since apologized for her remarks,“I want to be able to say what’s on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates, attack sponsors,” she said. “I’m sort of done with that.”

Pilot survives crash after plane wing breaks off mid-air

A pilot, who survived after his plane's wings came off, says he'll continue flying. Spectators at an air show in Argentina saw a small plane crash into the ground during a manoeuver. The pilot was strapped into his seat when he pulled his parachute, and the plane was lowered to the ground leaving him with little more than a burnt foot.

Peru Coca production skyrockets

Peru is set to overtake Colombia as the world's top producer of coca leaf, the raw material for cocaine.

Peru's production has nearly doubled in the last decade, according to UN data.

This year, it grew by about a 6.8 per cent, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime says. Curbing this figure will depend on the government's policies.
