Moscow Endures Killing Heat
Moscow residents continue to suffer in the heat-filled smog and smoke covering the city. It's the country's hottest weather on record.
Moscow is under siege from Russia's hottest weather since records began 130 years ago.
Thousands have been left homeless due to fires caused by the heat, which is also responsible for the smoke and smog covering Moscow.
Many city residents could be seen wearing face masks on Monday, while officials have advised Moscow residents against venturing outdoors.
Not everyone is convinced that the masks can help.
[Andrei, Muscovite]:
"I think these masks -- which are easy to buy and which everybody wears -- don't help, it's just self-delusion. Anyway it's impossible to buy those masks which can help, at least I don't know how to get them."
The average city death rates have nearly doubled since the heat wave struck and air pollution is at a dangerous high.
Moscow's health department chief said the heat wave was fully to blame for the rocketing death rates.
[Andrei Seltsovsky, Moscow Health Department Head]:
"The average death rate in the city during normal times is between 360-380 people a day. Today, we have around 700. This is no secret. Everyone thinks we're trying to keep it secret. Look, it is 40 degrees [celsius] on the street."
The government has been attacked by some Russians for its response to the fires.
Some critics say the government is trying to downplay the extent of the tragedy and believe it follows a similar pattern of covering up disasters throughout the country's history.

Former Taliban Ambassador to Pakistan Abdul Salam Zaeef: 9/11 - a Conspiracy against Muslims
In an interview with Al-Jazeera TV on July 14, 2010 , Abdul Salam Zaeef, the former Taliban ambassador to Pakistan, announced that he believes that 9/11 was a conspiracy against Afghanistan and Iraq :Abdul Salam Zaeef: " Personally, I believe that the 9/11 incident was a conspiracy against the Muslims, and especially against Afghanistan and Iraq, in order to bring the US forces into this region, into South Asia, and into strategic areas. Osama Bin Laden, terrorism, and so on were used as a pretext. But Allah be praised, their plan has failed. Today, they want to withdraw from Afghanistan, but they don’t know how. "
