Obama fires US commander of war in Afghanistan General McChrystal

Barack Obama, the US president, has dismissed General Stanley McChrystal, the US and Nato commander in Afghanistan, over disparaging comments about the president's staff in a Rolling Stone magazine interview.

Obama said he would not tolerate any act that could undermine civilian control of the US military.

The president was quick, however, to say that the counterinsurgency strategy in Afghanistan would continue -- though without its chief architect.

Afghan officials expressed disappointment over McChrystal's dismissal, but Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, said he accepted the decision.

Obama fires McChrystal

Obama said he has not dismissed because McChrystal personally offended by the comments posted on Rolling Stone: The decision was taken because the words of the general and his staff, not suitable for the mouth and the role of a commander, threatened to undermine "the civilian control over armed forces is at the heart of our system. " According to Obama's "war is more important than any man or woman who is a soldier, a general or a president. It 'difficult to lose the General McChrystal but this is the right decision for national security." McChrystal has lost his job for speaking to freewheel:
"The debate is welcome in my team, but not tolerate divisions," Obama said in the Rose Garden of the White House, his side Biden, Petraeus and the chief of General Staff Mike Mullen. "Draw a man but not the strategy, said the president and the headquarters of NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rassmussen confirmed: the strategy" does not change. "Pending sets up Petraeus, the commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan will be recruited by the British General Nick Parker, a name evidently agreed Obama had a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister David Cameron. In Kabul, President Hamid Karzai in conference call with Obama, had begged to keep his friend in his place McChrystal , said that it 'respects' the decision of U.S. president "ready to work' with 'proven' General Petraeus that" knows the region. "

Obama removes General McChrystal

"The conduct of the general was not up to the standards that are required of a master," Obama said in the Rose Garden accompanied by Deputy Joe Biden, one of the victims of jokes Team McChrystal. For the history books Obama has "accepted the resignation of the general." In reality McChrystal was shown the door in a tense face to face about twenty minutes in the Oval Office after which the general, frowning, had left the White House by car without making statements. McChrystal was then was the Stone of the War Council in the Situation Room, the last station of the Way of the Cross has been spared, since in the same room there would be Biden (renamed Bite Me, the employees at the general), the National Security Adviser James Jones ("a clown"), Ambassador in Kabul Eikenberry ("traitor") and special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke ("a dangerous wounded animal" ).

Police Brutality NYC Cop Beats War Veteran Senseless

The video taken from security cameras shows the 45-year-old housing cop beating an Iraq war veteran with is baton.
It happened at an Upper West Side public housing development. The victim, 28-year-old Walter Harvin had just returned from Iraq and was at his mom’s apartment complex.
The video is high quality and crystal clear that Housing Officer David London led an unprovoke attack on the Iraqi war veteran. Even beating the ex-soldier after he’s cuffed.
The officer is charged with 2nd degree assault and filing false records. Prosecutors say London tried to cover-up the July 2007 assault by lying on official documents.Right now the Manhattan criminal jury is tackling the question on whether London committed an act of police brutality or used necessary force to subdue a suspect.
The Iraq veteran suffers from PTSD. If the officer is convicted, he faces 7 years in prison

Its Raining OIL in Louisiana

Oil Rain In Louisiana

From The Washington Post:
The most disturbing of the worst-case scenarios, one that is unsubstantiated but is driving much of the blog discussion, is that the Deepwater Horizon well has been so badly damaged that it has spawned multiple leaks from the seafloor, making containment impossible and a long-term solution much more complicated.
Video from a robotic submersible, which is making the rounds online, shows something puffing from the seafloor. Some think it's oil. Or maybe -- look again -- it's just the silt blowing in response to the forward motion of the submersible.
More trouble: A tropical wave has formed in the Caribbean and could conceivably blow through the gulf.
"We're going to have to evacuate the gulf states," said Matt Simmons, founder of Simmons and Co., an oil investment firm and, since the April 20 blowout, the unflagging source of end-of-the-world predictions. "Can you imagine evacuating 20 million people? . . . This story is 80 times worse than I thought."
