Greece Meltdown

May 05, 2010Three people were killed in Athens on Wednesday as protests against the government's new austerity measures turned violent. In order to receive a 141 billion dollar loan package, Greece needs to prove to the rest of Europe that they're capable of paying the money back. To do this, Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou has proposed strict cuts to pensions and wages. To which the public sector responded with nation wide strikes, and as we see now, violence. Protesters set fire to a bank, in which three employees were trapped and were ultimately killed. So is the Greek population going about this the wrong way, and sending the rest of the world the wrong signals? Alyona talks to Joe Weisenthal from the Business Insider

Greece protests turn deadly

May 05, 2010Greece stands on the "edge of the abyss," Karolos Papoulias, the country's president, warned on Wednesday, after a day of violent protests against budget cuts and tax hikes left three people dead.

As a general strike - called to vent public fury at the planned measures to avert national bankruptcy - paralysed the nation, demonstrators tried to storm the parliament in Athens, the Greek capital.

The protest became violent, with petrol bombs thrown at police, who responded with pepper spray and tear gas.

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets across the country, angered by spending cuts and tax rises planned in return for a $146bn bailout for Greece.

Al Jazeera's Barnaby Phillips reports.

This crisis has been spreading globally and many people are saying that the economy is getting worse. Alex Jones says he believes that China will go bankrupt in the next few years. Alex Jones also speaks about the recent advertisement that shows the government invading our homes.
