Rebecca Peters was Chair of the National Coalition for Gun Control, which campaigned to tighten Australias gun laws in the 1990s, writes the Umut Foundation, an organization dedicated to Individual Disarmament in harmony with the European Union. Her research and advocacy helped bring about sweeping changes, including uniform gun laws across the eight states, a ban on semiautomatic rifles and shotguns, and a year-long buyback that destroyed nearly 700,000 weapons. Among the awards she received was the 1996 Australian Human Rights Medal, her countrys highest human rights honor.

The U.S. is apparently shipping large quantities of bunker-busting bombs to a British territory. A Scottish newspaper claims the ordinance, which was widely used in the Iraq invasion, is being sent to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. And it's raising fears American forces could be preparing an attack on Iran. Let's talk more on this now with nuclear disarmament activist Alan Mackinnon.

On March 14, the Herald Scotland reported on the delivery of hundreds of U.S. bunker buster bombs to the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean in preparation for a possible attack on Iran. Ten ammunition containers were sent to the island in January, according to a cargo manifest from the U.S. The Scottish newspaper report said Superior Maritime Services, a shipping company based in Florida, was paid $699,500 to transport military items from Concord, California, to Diego Garcia, including 195 smart, guided, Blu-110 bombs and 192 massive 2000lb Blu-117 bombs. Bunker busters are designed to penetrate underground structures.
The U.S. is shipping bunker-busting bombs capable of striking Iranian nuclear facilities to the Indian Ocean according to newspaper reports. It's claimed they're heading for British-controlled Diego Garcia, an island used by the U.S. as a base for attacks on Iraq in 1991 and 2003.
