EU Officials are investigating Greece Goldman Sachs Connections


The European Union has asked Greece to explain reports that it engaged in derivatives trades with US investment banks that may have allowed it to mask the size of its debt and deficit from EU authorities.Goldman Sachs made up an exchange rate that allowed the Greeks to look as though they were only engaging in a currency swap when, in effect, they were getting more than a billion more than they should have from the trades in credit.

Nascar racing is one the most popular and largest spectator sports in the United States, with a fan-base that is largely politically conservative.

That made it a good venue for Sarah Palin, the former Republican governor, to try to win back some of those supporters who have faded away following her failed bid the for vice presidency in 2008.

Clinton warns Gulf of Iran nuclear threat


Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, has warned that the US sees Iran's nuclear programme as the main threat in the region.

She made her comments at the US-Islamic World Forum in Qatar, a conference jointly organised by the Qatari foreign ministry and the US-based Brookings Institution and intended to promote dialogue on improving US-Islamic relations.
