The world may be on high alert for airline attacks, but that didn't stop a consignment of plastic explosives being smuggled into Ireland, by accident.

As part of a training exercise, Slovakian police hid explosives in unsuspecting travellers' luggage at the country's main airport.

They found most of it, but a batch of explosives still managed to end up on a Dublin-bound Danube Wings plane, leading to a police raid and the temporary arrest of an unwitting smuggler.

The United States has introduced strict new security measures for airline passengers. It follows the failed Christmas Day plot to blow up an American passenger jet. All travellers on U.S.-bound flights will be subject to random screening. But visitors from 14 countries, dubbed 'of interest,' face additional scrutiny.
